One candidate who was absent at Monday's forum was called out repeatedly.
"The race is not about a contrast between myself and Donna Deegan," Gibson said after the event."It's about a contrast between myself and seven or eight or nine or however many candidates there are, period."
Gibson said she's been in neighborhoods across the city and touted her experience dealing with issues as a lawmaker in the state House and the state Senate. Ferraro said during the Rotary Club forum that as mayor, he would concentrate city tax dollars on"core functions" of public safety and infrastructure.
"Our school system is failing our kids," Cumber said."... I don't want to be sending my kids to school and be told that the mayor of the 12th largest city in the country has no control over what my kids are learning.""The mayor certainly is a part of the voice for what happens with education, even though the School Board is the policy maker," she said.
She said she's been called a"long shot" but she is the"the best shot for the citizens of Jacksonville and I stand ready, willing, able and qualified to serve as your mayor," she said.
