But Sinéad’s death in July brought about an outpouring of long-awaited, post-mortem veneration, prizing her ethereal voice, her bravery, her unorthodox approach to her career. Suddenly, she was “right about everything,” including her stance against child abuse in the Catholic Church, marked most famously with her ripping up the photo of Pope John Paul II onin 1992. The media tried to destroy her, and—as many of us witnessed—the flame-throwing masses followed suit.
