Police are searching for a male gunman who reportedly had a mask.
EAST LANSING, Michigan — A gunman opened fire Monday night on the main campus of Michigan State University, with the school confirming that at least one person is dead and that multiple others have been wounded.said on Twitter that officers are searching for a gunman described as a short male with a mask. Students were told to shelter in place.
According to police, there were reports of shots fired near Berkey Hall on the East Lansing campus at about 8:18 p.m. Not long after, shots reportedly were fired near Snyder-Phillips Hall,The East Lansing High School auditorium, where a school board meeting was being held Monday night, was locked down and people were being prevented by police from leaving, theEmily Guerrant, a spokeswoman for the university, tells the News that one fatality was confirmed from the shooting inside Berkey Hall.
Reports say there still was an extensive police presence at the university at about 10:20 p.m. Monday. The East Lansing campus of Michigan State has about 50,000 students.
