Winnebago has unveiled its e-RV, a fully electric RV camper van concept developed by Winnebago Industries' Advanced Technology Group. It encompasses all the right buzz words: zero emissions, energy efficiency, functionality, sustainability, flexibility, innovation, connectedness, and eco-friendliness. The Winnebago e-RV is an all-electric motorhome designed for the electric age.and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but the e-RV is Ford Sprinter-based.
Winnebago claims its 86-kWh battery configuration e-RV has a range of 125 miles , and that it ideally charges in as little as 45 minutes. This is a good start for short trips, but rather underwhelming for seasoned travelers looking for more seat time between stops. A digital display for the integrated control system allows for operation and monitoring of multiple sub-systems. A tablet or smartphone app also allows for the monitoring of system information—after all, there's a lot to monitor when it's all electric. There's residential-grade wi-fi for data streaming and internet browsing.
The interior of the e-RV has all the goodies typically found in camper vans: water heater, air conditioner, marine-grade refrigerator, slide-out induction cooktop, matte-black sink fixtures, a potty, handheld shower head, and so on. Recycled cork-rubber flooring and woolen wall appliques show Winnebago's commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable products.Nobody knows for sure, and there's still a lot of work to be done before a wholesale switch to electric.
