Sheriff's homicide detectives investigating death of child; abuse suspected [Breaking]
A child died at a local hospital late last month, and sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the incident as a possible abuse case, officials said last week.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 2 a.m. on Aug. 30, about a child in distress at a home on Lakeview Drive in Spring Valley, homicide Lt. Chris Steffen said. The child was taken to a hospital. During the investigation, detectives noticed signs of abuse, Steffen said. He did not disclose what injuries the child sustained.The child died at the hospital. Officials didn’t say when the death occurred. They also didn’t provide the gender, age or name of the child.
Deputies made contact with the child’s father, who killed himself in their presence, Steffen said. The lieutenant did not answer questions about where or when the suicide occurred. Few additional details were released, including whether any suspects in the alleged abuse have been identified.
