San Jose Sharks trade Matt Nieto and Ryan Merkley to Colorado Avalanche for Jacob MacDonald and Martin Kaut.
The San Jose Sharks’ selloff began in earnest Wednesday night as they traded forward Matt Nieto and Barracuda defenseman Ryan Merkley to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Jacob MacDonald and forward Martin Kaut.
The six-foot, 204-pound native of Portland, Oregon, originally signed as a free agent with Florida in 2018, and played collegiately for four seasons at Cornell University. Internationally, Kaut has represented the Czech Republic at the junior and senior levels. He appeared at the 2018 and 2019 World Junior Championships, where he totaled seven points in seven games and four points in five games, respectively.
