Citing a recent uptick in gun-related crime and an ongoing racial disparity on local traffic stops, a group of concerned residents want voters to take a look at systemic policing reforms.
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio --
A press release refers to Shaker Heights Police Department and other city data showing that although Black people make up 36 percent of the city’s population, they received 71 percent of the traffic tickets in 2022. To make it on the ballot, it will take a minimum 10 percent of the number of voters who turned out at the polls last November, for which the threshold works out to at least 664 signatures, campaign organizers estimated.
