SF Giants call up 2022 draft pick batting nearly .400 in the minor leagues: report
In 92 professional games since being drafted, Meckler, a 5-10, 178-pound left-handed hitter, has combined for a .377/.472/.527 batting line, a .999 OPS, with six home runs, 26 doubles and three triples.
Outfielder Luis González, who recently completed his rehab from back surgery, was reportedly designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster, according to The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly. A corresponding move to open space on the active roster has not been announced. Luis Matos, the Giants’ promising outfield prospect, was sent back to Triple-A along with Mark Mathias, the Bay Area native who arrived at the trade deadline from Seattle.
Johan Camargo, a 29-year-old veteran infielder who appeared in 52 games for the Phillies last season and recently signed a minor-league deal with San Francisco, is also at Oracle Park ahead of Monday night’s game against the Rays.
