a Fort Worth-based family-owned business that supplies major retailers with plants, said Tuesday that it has started major layoffs at three of its Texas locations in Mansfield, Los Fresnos and Tyler.
The company said 227 people are losing their jobs “due to unforeseen business circumstances including notice from a key customer of the loss of its account.”for several large retailers such as Walmart and Home Depot. The lost customer account wasn’t identified in the filing with the Texas Workforce Commission and attempts to reach the company were unsuccessful. Staff cuts started last week and included 64 employees in Mansfield, 92 in Los Fresnos, which is in South Texas, and 71 in Winona near Tyler.of production space at facilities across the state, according to the LinkedIn page of Seville Farms president William Brentlinger.
The business also operates a software company dedicated to the greenhouse industry and has a plant propagation operation in Mansfield. The group of companies has grown to 680 employees year-round and up to 1,500 during peak season. Seville Farms lists other operations in Schulenburg and Waxahachie.
