plans on taking full advantage. Benton recently spoke exclusively with the Senior Bowl and Draft Network to discuss his motivation for accepting his invitation to compete in Mobile, Alabama.
JM: We’re so happy for you. What are you looking to prove to NFL general managers, coaching staffs, and scouts in attendance in Mobile? Coming in as a freshman run-stopper, I wasn’t sure how big of a role I was going to play. I quickly learned that stopping the run can force offenses into 3rd-and-long situations. That’s when we got after quarterbacks. Once I figured that out, I began taking even more pride in stopping the run.
I figured out that I’m in control of offensive linemen. They have to respond to what I’m doing. I have to get them off their [pass] set and make them uncomfortable. I can’t keep trying to run through their faces when they know I’m coming with power. I have to work some counter moves off of my power moves. I can’t use power all game long.
