In a statement issued Tuesday, Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill, R-York County, is calling on the Shapiro to disclose what he knew about the allegations made in a draft of a Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission complaint about his Secretary of Legislative AffairsThe accusations were made by a female former deputy secretary who worked in the legislative affairs office and resigned in early March after less than six weeks in the position.
Shapiro himself has not so far issued a statement about the matter. His spokesman, Manuel Bonder, said he couldn’t discuss personnel matters but said robust procedures are in place in that office to investigate reports of discrimination and harassment. “The lack of information or even acknowledgment by Governor Shapiro regarding the alleged sexual harassment by one of his former top officials is humiliating to women in the workplace,” Phillips-Hill said in her statement. “It sends a message to working women that they are not valued.”
She went on: “It also raises more questions than answers for Governor Shapiro’s administration such as how long did Governor Shapiro know, and have taxpayers been affected? Secrecy continues to be a trend with this administration.
