Senate passes bill in support of human rights in Hong Kong.

Police have fired rubber bullets, water cannons and tear gas in an attempt to disperse protesters from the occupied roads around Polytechnic University.

The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act was passed by voice vote. It now goes to the House, which has already passed similar legislation.
