The Senate of the Philippines on Monday approved on third and final reading a bill which seeks to convert the town of Carmona, Cavite into a city.
According to Senator JV Ejrecito, the sponsor of the bill as chairperson of the Senate local government committee, once the bill is signed into law, the town of Carmona will be the first municipality to be converted into a city under Republic Act No. 11683, which amended the Local Government Code of 1991 and made it easier for towns to apply for cityhood.
“Carmona has all the characteristics of a city but does not enjoy such privilege despite being one of the most prosperous municipalities in the entire country. This bill embodies the hard work, dreams, and aspirations of the people of Carmona,” Ejercito said. Ejercito said HB 3968's passage will pave the way for more opportunities for its people and more investments for its local government.
