THE Senate and the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) are committed to pursue the workers' clamor for a new round of wage increase to cushion the impact of surging prices while maintaining, at the same time, the balance between the interest of the business and labor sectors.
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma made the assurance on Wednesday at a forum in Malate, Manila even as they differed on approaches on how to deliver the workers' call for additional benefits.Zubiri said the Senate has committed support for Senate Bill 2202 which seeks a legislated P150 across-the-board daily wage hike.
Zubiri noted that the last legislated wage increase amounting to P89 was approved on July 1, 1989.Meanwhile, Laguesma said that regional tripartite wage boards were in the process of determining the amount of increase in specific regions, adding that part of the determination of a new round of wage hikes was the increases granted in June 2022 in all regions across the country.
