Sen. Imee Marcos sounded the alarm over how the four additional Edca sites will reportedly allow thousands of American troops to conduct daily military exercises in the Philippines – as if this was their home base. | BPinlacINQ
Marcos further said that putting a cap on the length of stay of US troops in the country under Edca is likewise necessary.
Marcos noted that there should be clear provisions in the Edca, which explicitly state that the Philippines should not be caught between warring nations, mainly if the dispute does not involve the country. President Marcos has previously said that the four recently identified locations under Edca would not be used for “any offensive action” but for the “defense of our territory.”China has since noted that three of the four additional Edca sites are near Taiwan, which Beijing claims and threatens to retake by force if necessary.

Imee urges limits on number of US forces, length of stay under EDCA“Ang balita, kinakabahan kami sa Ilocandia, aabot daw ng 17,000 troops ang Amerikano at araw-araw daw gagawin…Sa palagay ko parang di na exercises ‘yan. Parang maninirahan na sila dito, ganun ba ‘yun?” Imee said. “Siguro dapat mag limitasyon sa numero, may limitasyon din kumbaga sa visa. ‘Yung three-month visa from 90-day visa para maliwanag na di sila nakapirmi dito sa atin at Pilipino pa rin ang mga sundalo na naninirahan sa iba’t ibang kampo,” she added.
