Redmayne stars with Jessica Chastain in the movie based on the real story.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns wrote the screenplay for the movie, who co-stars Chastain as Amy Loughren, anurse who had a friendship with Cullen when he came under suspicion in connection with patient deaths. Loughren wore a wire to collect evidence against Cullen, who killed 13 people at the hospital.
“I don’t want to talk about work,” Cullen tells Loughren in the trailer — she was wearing a wire at the time.Cullen, who grew up in West Orange, was arrested in 2003 and told police he had murdered as many as 40 people. The nurse killed patients with overdoses of digoxin and insulin, injecting the medicine into bags of intravenous fluid.
He started working as a nurse in 1987 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, and admitted to killing patients there and at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg and Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. Cullen also worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital; Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania; Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown; and St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Cullen, now 62, was sentenced to 11 consecutive life sentences in prison and is at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.
