A new Secret Invasion set video reveals Maria Hill meeting up with Emilia Clarke's mysterious character. Cobie Smulders returns as Maria Hill, former Agent of SHIELD, joining her former boss Samuel L. Jackson, who is returning as Nick Fury for the Disney+ show. Clarke was added in a mysterious role for the series, as well as Olivia Colman, Christopher MacDonald, and Carmen Ejogo. Ben Mendelsohn also returns, reprising his role as the Skrull known as Talos.
Smulders first appeared in the MCU as Hill in 2012's The Avengers and has since appeared across multiple films, including the Agents of SHIELD TV series. Hill and Fury disappeared as part of the blip in Avengers: Infinity War, but were returned after the snap in Avengers: Endgame. Her last appearance was in Spider-Man: Far From Home, although it was revealed that it was actually Skrull named Soren that had taken her appearance.
— Film Updates January 23, 2022 Clarke is best known as Daenerys in HBO's Game of Thrones, which was also her first big role in Hollywood, making her a household name ever since. Smulders is best known as Robin Scherbatsky in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which ran for nine seasons.
Secret Invasion is still steeped in mystery in terms of how the six-episode mini-series will play out or what elements it will adapt from the actual comic if any. Kevin Feige recently said about the show that it would be smaller in scope, focusing on the"political paranoia aspect" of the comic, while attempting to do something very different.
