Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell fired former Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the mayor's office confirmed to KOMO News.
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell has fired former Seattle Police Department chief Adrian Diaz after a lengthy investigation by the Office of Inspector General citing multiple offenses including having an intimate relationship with an employee that he hired., Harrell outlined multiple claims in detail alleging Diaz was dishonest about his relationship with the employee, hired the employee and circumvented the normal human resources process.
According to the letter, Diaz “had an intimate or romantic relationship” with a former SPD employee, and then hired and directly supervised that employee. Thealso states the employee “wrote a handwritten card to Diaz that indicates a romantic or intimate relationship took place between Diaz” and the employee.
Diaz also “made direct statements/admissions” to other city employees about his “intimate interactions” with the employee. Harrell’s also said Diaz “acted inconsistently” with SPD’s “professionalism” and “improper personal relationships” policies.does not name the employee specifically, but does say, “The Investigator determined that Diaz engaged in an intimate or romantic relationship with Employee #1. Diaz hired Employee #1 into a Command Staff-level position and had her report directly to him. He failed to report this relationship either prior to or during Employee #1’s employment at SPD.
