Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson wants workers to return to City Hall four days a week.

Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson released a memo Tuesday saying she wants workers to return to City Hall four days a week by June 24. In a memo released Tuesday, Nelson explained that the start of the year has been “an exciting period of renewal” in the Legislative Department, otherwise known as the council offices.
“Given the significant advantages associated with being in the office, and after lengthy consultation with my fellow Councilmembers and Legislative Department division heads, I am writing today to announce that the Legislative Department will be transitioning to an increased in-office presence of four days a week to more effectively meet internal and external business needs,” Nelson wrote.
Nelson said the goal is to have the new policy “fully implemented” by June 24, which is the first Monday after Seattle Public Schools summer vacation begins. “We recognize that this change will require a period of transition as many individuals have organized various aspects of their lives around the current approach, hence this timeline for implementation,” Nelson wrote.The return-to-office issue has been a thorny one in the city, with public staffers and private sector employees both suggesting they prefer to work from home or on a hybrid schedule.
