The Justice Department on Friday searched the office of a think tank affiliated with Vice President Mike Pence and found no materials with classified markings, a Pence adviser said
and that “government records were likely concealed and removed” from a storage room at Mar-a-Lago after the Justice Department sent a subpoena for any remaining documents with classification markings.with a classified marking at Mar-a-Lago and turned it over to authorities, along with an aide’s laptop, according to people familiar with the matter.
In recent weeks, three lawyers for Mr. Trump have appeared before a grand jury as part of Mr. Smith’s investigation, which is separately examining efforts by the former president and his allies to overturn the 2020 election. Mr. Smith hasthe subpoena by arguing that, as vice president, he served also as president of the Senate and is covered by a constitutional protection that prevents members of Congress from being questioned in court about their legislative acts.
