A baby seal was rescued Monday night after police spotted it attempting to cross a busy New Jersey highway, officials said.
The grey seal was trying to cross Route 35 in Brick when township police stopped traffic, allowing the pup to cross, Brick Township Police said in a social media post. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center arrived on the scene, recovering the seal and transporting it to their shelter. “Thank you to all of the drivers who pulled over while the Brick Township Police Department and our volunteer kept this little seal safe until our stranding technician arrived,” the center said in a statement. “The pup is now safe at the MMSC.”
This seal is not the first to attempt to cross the highway, the center said in a Facebook post, thanks to Route 35′s, “close proximity to both the bay and ocean.”
