Howell is not replacing Geno Smith any time soon, at least based on Mike Macdonald’s remarks.
Whether or not Geno Smith’s three interceptions against the Los Angeles Rams were his fault wasn’t particularly relevant to Seattle Seahawks fans in the moment. The fact is that Smith’s pick-6 in the fourth quarter gave the Rams a 20-13 lead, and another interception near the end zone wasted a short field off of a blocked punt. With Smith now leading the NFL with 10 interceptions, including 9 at home, some Seahawks fans are growing restless and want to see a change at quarterback.
After playing just one game as a rookie, In Howell had 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in his lone season starting on one of the worst teams in the NFL. Howell was also the most sacked QB in the league. One of his best games came against the Seahawks, when he threw for 312 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in a 29-26 loss at Lumen Field. Howell threw 4 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for the remainder of the season post-Seattle game.
