Stevenson's Simone Sawyer scored a career-high 34 points in a 65-51 win over Kenwood at the Midwest Hoops Spotlight Invitational at Trinity High School Saturday.
The senior guard was locked in a no-holds-barred physical battle trying to will her team to a victory over Kenwood on Saturday night.
But Sawyer responded with one of the best two-way games of her career, falling 4 points shy of equaling Stevenson's single-game scoring record. "I'm exhausted and I'm glad we have off," Sawyer said, smiling."Ava is a huge part of this team. Everyone had to step up because one of our best leaders was out."
The 5-foot-10 Sawyer played bigger than her physical build, lifting the top-ranked Patriots to a marquee win.
