During an open house event at the new location, Don Campbell speaks about how the STC’s downtown emergency wellness centre helped him get back on his feet and find a home.On Wednesday, the STC held the first of four open houses scheduled to take place over two days at the future site chosen to replace the downtown facility. The former Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Fairhaven is expected to receive the first arrivals transferred from the existing First Avenue North location on Nov. 23.
Arcand said options in other locations were explored, but the STC couldn’t get anyone to rent a space for the wellness centre until the City of Saskatoon offered a lease at a nominal rate for the location downtown.The new wellness centre is expected to take over 31 additional provincially funded shelter beds from The Lighthouse Supported Living, in addition to the 75 beds the STC has been providing. The provincial government bought the Fairmont Drive building and will lease it to the STC.
