The city\u0027s viral RNA load increased by 42.8 per cent up to Feb. 22.

The latest wastewater sampling report from the Global Institute for Water Security shows the viral RNA load in Saskatoon increased by 42.8 per cent up to Feb. 22, microbiologist Ayodeji Charles Osunla said in an email. We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

In Prince Albert up to Feb. 21, the viral load increased 64.1 per cent, bumping the concentration into the high range. This is the 25th highest concentration recorded. North Battleford, in the same period, saw a decrease of 26.6 per cent. This is the 27th highest value recorded during the pandemic, and drops the city into the medium range.

Osunla is part of a U of S team measuring COVID-19 through wastewater. People infected with the virus leave traces of it in their feces. By measuring the viral load in a city’s sewage, researchers are able to approximate how many people in that city are infected with COVID-19, even if they don’t know it.Article content
