The new position will be in charge of the Saskatchewan Marshal Service as the concrete settles on what the organization will look like.
The detachment is expected to be located in Prince Albert, according to Premier Scott Moe. The premier said in January of this year the Gateway to North was selected as the headquarters given its proximity to a large existing RCMP detachment and the high crime rate in the area.“If you look at Prince Albert, and even into the northwest, it is an area of concern and if you talk to law enforcement officials, they would agree with that,” Moe said at the start of this year.
“As we build the foundation of the Saskatchewan Marshals Service, it’s critical that we have the right person in place to oversee its creation and ensure its ongoing success,” said newly-appointed Minister of Policing and Public Safety Paul Merriman in a press release. “Our candidate of choice must be an experienced senior law enforcement executive with an exceptional history of achieving results in collaborative environments, ideally within the field of policing or criminal justice,” read the job posting, which closes Sept. 24.
Part of the job description includes a successful candidate being able to “Direct the development and implementation of provincial-wide policies, standard operational procedures, and compliance with provincial and federal legislation with respect to operations.”
