“In the case of India, we have a long history of immigration from India and a growing Indo-Canadian diaspora in Saskatchewan to be sure,” she said. Around 7,000 Indian citizens were nominated for permanent residency in Saskatchewan, said Bourgoin.

When it comes to the appearance of bias, given that seven of eight targeted countries are European, Bourgoin said there was “absolutely not” any bias involved in the selection. The SINP program has a total of 7,250 spots available for immigration, and given the finite numbers, there is an increased emphasis on getting people who are likely to stay here.
