Rugby - Saracens surge back to beat Leinster in Champions Cup final
NEWCASTLE, England - England’s Saracens were crowned champions of Europe for the third time in four years on Saturday as they surged back from 10-0 down to overwhelm last year’s winners Leinster 20-10 in a ferocious final.
Both sides defended ferociously in a brutal third quarter but Saracens took advantage of a yellow card for Scott Fardy as another Owen Farrell penalty and a try by Billy Vunipola settled it. The result meant Saracens have won every game of their European campaign - only the third time that has been achieved after their own run in 2016 and Leinster’s last season.
His team were deserved winners of what was widely billed as a showdown between undoubtedly the two best teams in Europe, showing all their tenacity and self-belief after a wobbly start.
