Monterey and Santa Cruz county officials gathered Sunday afternoon to warn residents of probable evacuations as a result of the latest storm hitting the Central Coast.
The latest atmospheric river-fed storm was expected to begin impacting the region late Sunday night and early Monday morning. According to the National Weather Service rain should begin tapering off by late morning or early afternoon Monday. Light showers are then expected to return around 5 p.m. and get heavier through the night into early Tuesday. Saturday night and early Sunday morning about .5 of rain fell on Monterey Regional Airport.
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto said evacuation warnings to those areas announced Sunday afternoon would probably be upgraded quickly to evacuation orders. She advised residents to be packed and ready to go.
