The man died two days after the crash, police said

SAN JOSE — A truck driver, who died from his injuries two days after he veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree, has been identified by authorities.

The crash was reported at about 6:10 a.m. March 1 on South White Road near Quimby Road, according to a San Jose Police Department news release. A man, identified as 33-year-old Ryan Matthew Olander of Shingletown, was driving south in a 2014 Ford F-150 truck on White, police said. Olander left the roadway and veered into the median, crashing into a tree. He was taken to a hospital, where he died Thursday.

The death marked the 19th roadway fatality of the year, according to authorities. Five of those have been on South White Road — three motorists and two pedestrians. The city last year recorded 60 traffic deaths, matching a 20-year peak last reached in 2019 and 2015.
