Slack’s decision suggests that private companies are anticipating normal life won’t return any time soon.

As parts of the U.S. begin to think about reopening, San Francisco-based tech company Slack has taken the opposite approach: the company’s offices will be shut down until at least September of this year. ... The company, which makes a workplace chat app, said it will also continue to pay its contracted and hourly employees. Slack’s offices have been shut down since March 18, when San Francisco’s shelter-in-place order went into effect. Though it is ultimately unclear when Americans who work in offices such as Slack’s will be able to return to work, the company’s decision suggests that some private companies are anticipating normal life won’t return any time soon.
