SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot Saturday afternoon during an attempted robbery in downtown San Francisco, the city's mayor and local police officials said. In a statement, San Francisco police said that officers responded to a report of a shooting about a block from Union Square a little after 3:30 p.m. local time, where they found two males with injuries, one of whom was Pearsal. Both were transported to area hospitals.
No further details were provided, and police did not say if a firearm was recovered from the scene. The suspect, who was not named, is in custody and is expected to face charges, police said. Police did not elaborate on the exact nature of the injuries sustained by Pearsall and the suspect, or their conditions.
