San Diego's Sempra signs LNG deals with Germany, Poland, who are looking to replace Russian gas
“if we expand quickly” by building new LNG import infrastructure and transport pipelines.
In the LNG process, export facilities take natural gas via pipelines and cool it to minus-260 degrees Fahrenheit. They then load the liquefied gas onto specially made cargo tanks on double-hulled ships that take the LNG to markets around the world, many of them eager to substitute their use of coal with natural gas.
Earlier this week, Sempra and its financial partners at Cameron LNG — Total Energies of France and Mitsui and Mitsubishi of Japan — signed an agreement on a proposed carbon storage project in the Gulf Coast. “This project is expected to be among the first North American carbon capture facilities designed to receive and store CO2 from multiple sources,” said Sempra Infrastructure CEO Justin Bird, “and our goal is for this facility to set the gold standard for safe and permanent CO2 storage.”
