Shapour Moinian, who served 23 years in the Army as a helicopter pilot, admitted to selling information from his defense contractor employers
A San Diego civilian defense contractor and former Army helicopter pilot was sentenced Monday to one year and eight months in federal prison for selling information from his employers to anShapour Moinian, 67, pleaded guilty in June to acting as an agent on behalf of a foreign government and to two counts related to lying about his Chinese contacts on government background questionnaires.
Later that same year, he traveled internationally with a stopover in Shanghai, where he met with Chinese government officials and provided them a thumb drive with material that included proprietary information from one of the defense contracting companies he worked for, according to his plea agreement.
Authorities have not said how they discovered Moinian’s criminal conduct, but at the time of his arrest last year, prosecutors said he was preparing to move to South Korea to work for another defense contractor producing a military aircraft for the Korean government. He had already given many of his belongings to the international shipping company and had given notice to his landlord that he was vacating in a week.
