While the broader category of crimes against persons saw a 2.5 percent increase, homicides rose 43.5 percent in 2022 — to 231 recorded homicides last year from 161 in 2021. McManus noted that last year’s number includes 53 migrants who died when they were left in a sweltering tractor-trailer in June.
A holiday burglary vehicle task force within the San Antonio Police Department that operated from November 2022 through Jan. 6 resulted in 58 arrests, 30 weapons recovered and 39 stolen vehicles recovered.
