Efrain Contreras started the strong run of Missions pitching on Thursday, throwing six shutout frames allowing three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. Corpus Christi notched a run on two hits within the first three batters, and the Hooks scored their second run on a walk and a pair of hits to lead off the second inning. But Watson retired 13 of the final 16 batters he faced, allowing just three singles the rest of the way.
Bouncing back after allowing multiple runs in four of his previous five outings, Wolf threw seven innings giving up one run on four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. With Korry Howell, San Diego’s No. 13 prospect, sitting out since April 27 due to injury, No. 28 Tirso Ornelas was the only other ranked prospect on the Missions’ active roster.
