More than half of the latest round of housing bond awards are for “permanent supportive housing” projects that house people who are chronically homeless.
Four affordable housing projects on the city’s South and East sides got a boost when City Council on Thursday signed off on awarding them a combined $17.2 million of city housing bond dollars. The four projects will create 729 units for families earning less than $64,000 annually — with most of those set aside for tenants living on far less.
Opportunity Home San Antonio fires President and CEO Ed Hinojosa Jr., effective immediately “The bond created a path forward for many affordable developments facing significant challenges and has resulted in over 1,000 new affordable units that broke ground just last year alone,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg said at the June 13 briefing. The latest awards give Dallas-based Palladium USA International, Inc.
Ministries, will receive $3.6 million for The Commons at Acequia Trails, a 201-unit complex of studios and 1-bedroom apartments on a 7-acre site at South Presa Street and Old Corpus Christi Road in District 3. Construction should wrap up by June 2026. Ministries already received $15 million in bond money for the project.
