North East ISD tween Lila Smethurst took home the crown on the Food Network's 'Kids Baking Championship.'
Most tweens could only dream of being honored by City Council once in their lifetimes, but Thursday was the second go-round for Kids Baking Champion Lila Smethurst . An Alamo City native and student at North East ISD, Lila was recognized before Council in Feburary for her fighting spirit on the Food Network ' Kids Baking Championship,' which had just aired its semifinal episode.
The young baking star was congratulated by council members including Manny Palaez, who showed video from a baking lesson with Lila and called her 'one of the smartest young women I've ever met in my life.' She confirmed that she used the prize money from the show for two kittens, which she named Baroness Valentina Von Schneena Bertinelli-Smethurst and Baron Dufflepuff Goldman-Smethurst — or Duff and Val for short, after the competition's hosts Valerie Bertinelli and Duff Goldman.
