The Netflix streaming date for Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy has been announced. The Spider-Man films, which starred Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, are largely responsible for the current boom of superhero movies. Without the big-budget spectacle of the Spider-Man trilogy blazing a trail, along with other popular projects like the Blade and X-Men trilogies, the modern Marvel Cinematic Universe likely wouldn't even exist, at least in the same form.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Spider-Man trilogy began with Spider-Man in 2002, which followed Parker being bitten by a radioactive spider, gaining superpowers, becoming a vigilante hero after the death of his Uncle Ben , and squaring off against the villainous Green Goblin . That film also introduced important characters who would span the entire trilogy, including Mary Jane Watson , Harry Osborn , and J. Jonah Jameson .
This deal is likely going to be lucrative for Netflix in the U.S. Although Disney+ is the exclusive streaming home of the Raimi trilogy in other territories, Sony's hold over the Spider-Man rights makes streaming negotiations rather complicated. This also explains why none of the Tom Holland films appear on Disney's proprietary service, either, even though it houses the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Maguire Spider-Man films have received a surge in popularity recently due to the incredible success of the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home. That film used Doctor Strange's control over the universe to have Tom Holland's Peter Parker meet the Spider-Men played by Maguire and Andrew Garfield .
