According to officials of the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office, Meguerditchian hosted a party at his home located at 640 E. Wilmington Avenue on Aug. 28, 2021. Officials said that Meguerditchian then forced several other people who had attended the party into his laundry room "and threatened with violence" while police responded to to search for evidence of the shooting. Initially, officers did not find anything suspicious.Around 6:30 a.m., authorities said that someone contacted police and reported that they believed "their friend was being held captive at Meguerditchian’s house.
It was reported that Meguerditchian believed the girl had invited the group who stole a bottle of his liquor to the party.
