Sacramento jail may soon get unusual visitor: A federal judge to investigate allegations of attorney privacy invasions
SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento County jail may soon be visited by a federal judge to investigation ongoing allegations that supposedly confidential attorney/client meetings weren’t private after all.
If it is found that the jail has systemic issues affecting attorney/client privilege, that ruling could spill over to countless criminal convictions and ongoing cases, as defendants are supposed to have guaranteed privacy with their lawyers. “The defense believes such an inspection is appropriate, necessary and will benefit the court in its role as fact finder. The defense further believes the requested inspection should, therefore, occur before the evidentiary hearing,” the attorneys wrote.
