While first-time undergraduate transfers had a 60-day window to enter their name in order to be immediately eligible at their next school, graduate transfers would be eligible to play the following season no matter when they decided leave.

There are other rampant issues that are far more difficult to fix. Tampering, something just about every coach in the country has complained about during the portal era, is near the top of the list. Pikiell said he doesn’t “spend a lot of time on things I can’t control,” that the tampering dilemma “is what it is.” And like most of the issues being brought up by coaches and administrators in the current era of name, image and likeness and the transfer portal, there is no obvious solution.
