Special counsel Jack Smith's office reportedly subpoenaed Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani for records about fundraising efforts in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
Smith's office sent the subpoena for information about payments Giuliani gathered after the 2020 election in tandem with subpoenas to allies of former President Donald Trump for disbursements received from the Save America PAC, a person familiar with the situation reportedly told CNN.Giuliani fired off a multitude of lawsuits to overturn election results in the wake of Trump's loss to President Joe Biden.
Smith was tasked by Attorney General Merrick Garland with spearheading the Justice Department's sprawling investigations surrounding Trump and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and the classified document ordeal. Smith took the reigns after Trump declared his 2024 presidential candidacy and is expected to weigh possible criminal charges against Trump.
