A West Haven man is dead and his brother-in-law has been arrested for shooting him.
The victim’s son called police shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday to report that his father — Russell Allen Evans — had been shot. When officers arrived, they found the Evans outside his home, and he had suffered “multiple” gunshot wounds, according to a probable cause statement.Evans’ son told police he heard “popping sounds” after his father went out on the back porch. When he looked outside, he saw a man he believed was his uncle with his arm outstretched as if he was holding a gun.
When police went to the suspect’s home in Roy, he told them there was a gun in his truck, and officers arrested him without incident. According to the probable cause statement, the suspect agreed to speak to police. He told them he drove to his brother-in-law’s home and waited in the backyard for Evans to come outside. The suspect told police he “made eye contact” with his brother-in-law and “shot him multiple times.” Police have not indicated that the suspect provided a motive for the shooting.
The 40-year-old suspect was booked into the Weber County jail pending formal charges. He is being held without bail.
