Rock climber dies after falling on El Cajon Mountain in Lakeside area [Breaking]
A rock climber died Sunday after falling about 200 feet on El Cajon Mountain, also known as El Capitan, in the Lakeside area, authorities said.As of late Sunday afternoon, paramedics and deputies had been unable to reach the area because of the steep, rocky terrain. They were working on a plan to recover the body, a task that likely will resume Monday because of the conditions, including dwindling sunlight, sheriff’s Lt. Ryan Wisniewski said.
El Cajon Mountain is located south of the Barona Resort and Casino. A parking area for the mountain trailhead is located off Wildcat Canyon Road near El Capitan Preserve. The mountain reaches 3,600 feet in elevation and offers “a significant amount of climbing with a wide range” of difficulty levels, according to
