Richardson Parks and Recreation staff are planting two different mixes of wildflower seeds this year.

One wildflower seed mix includes corn flower, rocket larkspur and red corn poppy. The second mix, called the “native mix,” features flowers such as Texas paintbrushes, wine cups, plains coreopsis and standing cypress.In all, about 50 acres are being sown with about 2,000 pounds of wildflower seeds. In the spring, some of the best places to see the flowers in bloom will be Breckinridge Park, Crowley Park and Huffhines Park, as well as Fox Creek Park and CityLine Park, both of which will feature the native mix, city officials said.

Richardson’s wildflower planting program began in the early 1990s and has led Richardson to being recognized as one of the best North Texas cities to view wildflowers. In addition to the annual fall plantings, residents, homeowner associations, and other community groups can request and help fund wildflower planting in specific areas through the city’s Operation Bloom Town program, the city
