Daisy Ridley is returning a Rey for a new Star Wars movie, but a New Jedi Order rumor suggests Rey takes a back seat in the upcoming film.
A new Star Wars rumor suggests that Rey Skywalker will take a back seat in the upcoming New Jedi Order film. Sharmeen Obaid-Chino’s Star Wars movie, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, will see Daisy Ridley back as Rey for the first time since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
During The Hot Mic podcast, industry insider Jeff Sneider offered more details on Rey’s New Jedi Order movie. According to Sneider, Daisy Ridley “won’t necessarily be the lead.” Sneider compared Rey’s role in the upcoming Star Wars film with Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope or Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy. Both of those characters served as the mentors to a new generation of heroes.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Everything We Know About Rey's New Jedi Order Movie Rey’s new Star Wars movie was one of three theatrical Star Wars projects announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Whereas James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film and Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian movie both take place before the sequel trilogy, Sharmeen Obaid-Chino’s Star Wars film will be set after The Rise of Skywalker.
Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey only three after the sequel trilogy’s conclusion is unprecedented for Star Wars. Mark Hamill only reprised his role as Luke Skywalker 28 years after Return of the Jedi, whereas Hayden Christensen only returned as Darth Vader 17 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. As such, having Rey as a mentor figure to new heroes could be a great choice.
No other Star Wars characters have been confirmed for Rey’s new Star Wars film. However, given that only 15 years will have passed between The Rise of Skywalker and Rey’s new adventure, several sequel trilogy actors can return. Sharmeen Obaid-Chino’s Star Wars movie does not have a release date, but the film is expected to premiere on December 2025.
