Montgomery, Alabama

A $15,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest in a 2014 cold case homicide. It has been almost ten years since Charlie “Jay” McCord was murdered in his barber shop on Mt. Meigs Road in Montgomery. District Attorney Darryl Bailey, CrimeStoppers, and the Montgomery County Cold Case Unit are asking for the public to look at new video in hopes that someone may remember something from that day.

Bell is asking anyone with information to please come forward. Bell said her brother’s loved ones, and especially his 8 children, need to know what happened and his murderer must be held accountable. An increase in reward money from $11,000 to $15,000 was announced today. And new video of a man in a white shirt walking near the barber shop on October 14, 2014 was released, as well as a picture of a gold vehicle that the suspect was believed to be driving or riding in. Antony Shannon is a cold case investigator with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office, and he said, “This person that we see walking going into the barbershop – ladies and gentlemen this is the perpetrator.

Bell told Action 8 News, “Justice and accountability is a must and his eight kids deserve to know who killed their father. They don’t need to live their lives with unanswered questions and I hear those questions all the time.” McCord was known as “The Barber Man”, and his shop had only been open about a year when he was killed. Police believe McCord was shot during an attempted robbery. He was only 36 years old.
