This handy little music player in incredibly versatile and can work with USB and Bluetooth connections. It supports a wide range of audio codecs and features advanced amplifiers and DACs.
On the right side of the BTR7, there’s a strip of control buttons for turning the power on, controlling the music and adjusting volume levels. A rocker switch also doubles as a multi-function control for skipping and replaying music tracks. Finally, a small sliding switch is used when the BTR7 needs its battery recharging. The BTR7 is the first portable Bluetooth amplifier/DAC that includes dual THX AAA-28 amplifiers for a fully balanced audio design. Left and right channels are driven separately to ensure minimal crosstalk. The dual amplifiers can also deliver up to 80% more power than previous FiiO amplifier/DAC models. If you enjoy listening to loud music, you’ll love the BTR7.The two powerful THX amplifiers are fed with analog signals from a couple of ESS9219 Sabre DACs using 32-bit ‘HyperStream’ architecture.
There are two ways to hook the BTR7 up to a smartphone, tablet or computer. You can use a USB cable or Bluetooth. The device can work as a wireless receiver for streaming music from a smartphone over Bluetooth. In USB mode, the BTR7 can play digital music files up to 32-bit / 384kHz or DSD256. In addition, the BTR7 can also unfold MQA files as streamed with TIDAL’s Masters Series.
The BTR7 has a built-in battery so it won’t drain the host smartphone’s battery. A full battery charge provides up to nine hours of playing time and can even be charged wirelessly. To ensure compatibility with a wide range of USB devices, the FiiO BTR7 can be switched to a USB 1.0 dongle mode with a driverless interface to be used with legacy devices or ones with locked operating systems, like Sony’s PS5 and Nintendo’s Switch.... I tried out the FiiO BTR7 using a pair of Sennheiser’s brand-new IE200 wired earphones. It turned out to be a perfect partnership. The sound from the BTR7 over Bluetooth and via the USB wired connection was sublime. It’s a nicely balanced tone with plenty of headroom in the volume and excellent separation between bass, midrange and treble.
