After its premiere at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, the play went on to Broadway, a national tour and several international productions before being adapted into a 1985 film starring Jane Fonda. Pielmeier based the script on the 1977 trial of a nun in upstate New York, who was charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after her baby was suffocated.

Mother-child troubles come up not only for Agnes, but for all three characters. Dr. Livingstone recalls many arguments with her mother over matters of religion, her choice of romantic partners, etc. In the first act, Miriam reveals that she was a wife and mother before taking her vows, but is now estranged from her children. In addition, she drops a bombshell revelation about Agnes’s family that shakes up Dr. Livingstone’s understanding of the case.

Bold and Blunt: America Is Pessimistic Because America's Losing GodBold and Blunt: America Is Pessimistic Because America's Losing GodMost American adults say in recent surveys they're pessimistic about the fate of America, they're uncertain the future generation will have it better than they did and that the era of American Exceptionalism has come to an end. There's a reason for that and it can be summarized in just a few short words: America's losing God-given rights. From there, all ails in the political world follow -- and that leads to plenty of scandals, corruption, wickedness and outright evil that is being passed as the new normal. Judge Jeanine Pirro details in her new 'Crimes Against America' some of the biggest problems Americans now face, and offers up some solutions to turn the tide of pessimism back to optimism.
